I know this is not as big a fan favorite as LIS and Voyage but it's still a special show that holds up surprisingly well, today. Its immense cost doomed it to a too-short run but, given its runaway popularity in Australia and the U.K. later on, Fox might have done well to revive it. Star Gary Conway thought so and had flirted with the idea of doing a reunion movie in Australia some years back. Nothing apparently came of it but costar Don Marshall had written a treatment for it. It would have been tough and costly to recreate the sets from the old series but it would've been great to see the Spindrift finally fly again, as was planned. Too bad the 3rd season was aborted by ABC; we would've seen far more warmth and character development since Irwin Allen was agreeing with critics the show lacked it. The Mark & Valerie characters were to be married and I recall there were to be major revelations about the inner workings of the giant's totalitarian government. What a shame such a great concept didn't live long enough to see its full potential. Though it was cliched at times, its appeal to me is timeless and I urge fans to buy the $200. boxed DVD set released last summer; this show is classic, even though it's not in the top tier of popularity among Allen's efforts. Anyone else have any observations on Giants?

I remember the first episode when I was about four or five and it left a tremendous impression on me.  I was terrified by the giant's face on the viewer screen on the flight deck.  I viewed the episode recently from a video tape I had made from the television in the late 80s (doesn't time fly?) and realise it was the face of a boy who had picked up their spaceship.  Further thrills included the dinosaur and the rescue which involved the giant who kept on proding the two characters with that instrument.  The show was a magnificent achievement.  I cannot remember what most of the characters were called but I did love the show and look forward to seeing it again sometime.

This was indeed a great series. I saw the first season when I was 10, but missed the second - maybe they didn't show it in the UK?

Fortunatly, I saw the whole lot when they showed it again in 1989/90.

I never tire of this show and have watched it over and over on my DVDs. I even like the sillier episodes like "Pay The Piper" which was fun due to Jonathan Harris's zany performance. The badger attack on the Spindrift sequence was also well done although I must note that the ship's interior often looked different in various 2nd season episodes, unlike in the 1st season.

I have finished watching the DVD series collection and am watching it over and over again. I wished someone can explain the situations if the crew and passengers were really stranded. The Spindrift is a sub-orbital spaceship and for hygien acommodations, the toilet facilities may or may not survived the crash landing. Where there shower compartments? All the passengers carry enough clothes to change daily? What about personal items like women's needs and deoderants? Chipper had to eat something besides human giant food. It is the little nagging things if these people had to stay for more than five years being stranded. Explain.
