I guess this is a thinning crowd but I think the Fox DVD releases have done fairly well. Too bad very few who get on forums like this likely saw the show in its original network run; I'm one of them. Though it started out a bit too serious, at times, all too soon it found the silliness factor like that which befell Lost In Space. I think the best balance was in the 2nd year before it became too much 'monster of the week'. The 3rd year was often abysmal but I still enjoyed a lot of it and the 4th year was actually better, overall. Surely Richard Basehart's straight portrayal of Nelson helped hold it together even at its worst. And bad, as some of those shows were, they were still better than a lot of the drek on now. I didn't see the earlier movie until it was run on ABC during the series' 3rd year so it was a bit jarring to accept Walter Pidgeon as Nelson and Robert Sterling as Crane; they just weren't the characters I'd come to know. It's a shame Hedison turned down the movie when it was offered to him but given how bad his "Lost World" experience was, it was understandable. I felt Pidgeon was just too old to be Nelson; it was more dynamic with Basehart. Anyone here have any great "Voyage" memories or observations?

Your observations are pretty spot-on, JeffHastings.  I, too, am an original Voyage fan from back in the day.  Although I was/am a die-hard sci-fi (as in outer space stuff) fan, I am attracted to undersea adventure stuff.  Maybe because our oceans, covering three quarters of the planet, is the last great frontier before "space, the final frontier."  I believe Roy Scheider Captain Bridger of SeaQuest said something to that effect.  Even though I was glued to the television at six years of age to catch Star Trek, I absorbed VttBotS whenever I got the chance.  And who didn't like the Seaview?  That boat still holds up today as a sleek looking modern type nuclear sub.  I'm surprised there isn't an updated movie in the works like everything else being mined from that era.  Now that I'm reliving the adventures of Voyage I can't help but agree with you about how the show started to become a bit silly, but I'm getting them all on DVD anyway.  My inner kid would never forgive me.  I thought the second season start, in color and with the Flying Sub and updated Seaview, was the beginning of something brilliant, but as you say it quickly turned into the 'monster of the week' just like its Lost In Space sibling.  But I'm a fan of that too, no matter how silly.  (The carrot man went a bit too far for me, though)  I was/am a big fan of Richard Basehart.  Were you aware that he was the voice-over performer for the opening of the original Nightrider tv program with David Hasslehauf?  This was, I believe, shortly before his death.  Even Nightrider is coming back as an updated show, but with a Mustang and Will Arnet (Job from Arrested Development as the voice of KITT).

Thank you, SHADO1, happy to be here.  BTW, I love that SID* graphic.  I've worked in the field of broadcasting for the last 17 years or so, and every time I come across the acronym S.I.D. for Station InDentification I snicker because I can't help but think of UFO and *Space Intruder Detector.  LOL

All of our fellow Voyage fans will be pleased to note that Fox has announced that the fourth and final season of VTTBOTS will be available on DVD sometime in 2009, and we can safely assume that it will be released in the same 1/2 season per set format as the rest of the series has been released.

I'm still waiting for the 4th season DVDs, can't understand why Fox waited so long until after the '07 release of the 3rd season unless they didn't sell too well. I admit it's a hard call to release shows from so long ago since so much of the public is too young to have even heard of them. Nevertheless, there's still a base of us hardcore fans out there who are rabid to get them.

If fans of the sea view series campaign for mini series or a  movie, maybe it will happen.
I mean we need some thing new to enjoy our pass time.

Welcome aboard! Apparently there is a Voyage feature in development, but who knows how long it may take to produce.
