Captain Nemo and The Underwater City & City Beneath the Sea...

I remember watching both of these in their original run.  Does anyone know if these were ever released on VHS or DVD?

Would love to get City Beneath The Sea!! I still remember passing up the viewmaster reels to that one when I was a kid-if I'd only known!

I have a great half sheet poster from the theatrical release of City Beneath the Sea in Belgium. Very cool.

Hello, all. I'm new to this forum but an OLD Irwin Allen fan going all the way back to December, 1964 when I caught my 1st episode of Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea ("The Ghost Of Moby Dick") at age 9. I've searched extensively in vain for these two titles over the last few years and suggest we lobby 20th Century Fox on the matter. It seems ludicrous Fox wouldn't try to sell them; perhaps they're waiting until after remaining sets of Voyage are released to offer these. These titles are among the lesser known Allen properties so that likely has a lot to do with it. "City" was the most ambitious thing I'd seen done on TV and "Nemo", while not nearly as good, was charming in its campiness, particularly with Burgess Meredith's character. I'd seen this on USA network back in '86 or '87 but haven't seen "City" since the mid-70's. Sad such lost classics haven't yet been made to us rabid fans. Glad to make your acquaintance; more commentary to come. Take care, IA fans!

Hi Jeff,
Glad to have you aboard, stow your gear in the Flying Sub and man your duty station!
I agree, it would be great to have both these on DVD. Might not be a bad idea to write letters to Fox and see if they have any plans.
Let your Irwin Allen pals know bout the boards, and welcome.
Anthony

I know this sounds strange, but I think City Beneath The Sea was actually released by Warner Bros. in theaters....I'll have to check some more...perhaps that was overseas...

I first saw it on NBC in, I think, Feb. 1971 in their Monday night movie bloc and it was also rerun that summer. As far as I know, it was never in theaters here but might've been overseas. A local NY TV station also ran it a few years later. I've been looking for it for years but so far, no soap. I think it was offered on tape in the U.K. quite a long time ago. Let's get on the horn to Fox and let them know we're interested.

City Beneath the Sea isn't owned by Fox, its owned by Warner Bros. They hold the rights.

Thanks for the update. This may help explain why it's not out on DVD; Fox seems to be faster at releasing older titles, perhaps because they've ties with Columbia House. I know Fox produced "City" but it may have been a co-production with Warner like "The Towering Inferno". It's also quite possible Fox just outright sold the rights to Warner. Many of Allen's later films & TV movies were made by Warner so anything's possible. OK, let's lobby Warner, then.

I've been trying to locate a copy of city beneath the sea for years, on tape or disc with no luck. I have a copy on beta tape that i recorded back in 1980 with commercial interuptions. I was in the process of recording that onto DVD when the tape player ate the tape a few months ago. Now i'm stuck with a movie with a six minute gap in it. I went onto the AMC and TCM websites and requested for them to play the movie if they have access to a copy, but didn't get a reply.Maybe if enough people e-mail them requesting that title, they may finally get it on. Turner Classic Movies would be the channel of choice because they show without commercials
